The Bad Girls’ Club Cocktail Party

In keeping with the cover image for The Bad Girls’ Club, I thought I’d introduce you to the members of the club by throwing a cocktail party complete with their favourite cocktail recipes.

The Bad Girls’ Club is the story of three women – Juliette, Imogen and Beth who meet at the wedding of a mutual acquaintance.  Each of them have issues with the bride, Poppy, and her mistreatment of them.  This confirms for them that nice girls finish last while bad girls have all the fun.

They form the Bad Girls’ Club and participate in weekly dares that push them way out of their comfort zones but end up realising the most important thing the club has given them is the bond between the three of them.

So, what would the Bad Girls’ drink:

Beth –Espresso Martini

Beth likes to be sophisticated and, more importantly, likes to be seen to be sophisticated.  Also, she is obsessed with coffee.  She’s also the kind of girl who can walk from the bar carrying a drink in a martini glass without spilling a drop (a skill I’ve personally never mastered!) which has to be the most important thing when drinking any type of martini.

To make an Espresso Martini:

1 part freshly brewed espresso coffee, chilled

1 part vodka

1 part white creme de cacao

Coffee beans, to serve

Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice then add the liquid ingredients and shake until chilled.  Pour into a martini glass and top with the coffee bean to garnish.

Imogen – Margarita

Imogen is a tough nut who can be a mouthy at times.  Even though she has a total sweet tooth, she knows what she likes and I think the salty/sour combination of the margarita would make it one of her favourites.  I could see her chuck back a heap of these then dancing on the table!

To make a Margarita:

2 parts tequila

1 part Cointreau

1 part freshly squeezed lemon juice

Sea salt, to serve

Combine the ingredients in a blender until the ice is crushed.  Dampen the rim of a margarita glass and empty salt into a saucer then dip the glass to salt the rim.  Pour the margarita into the glass then repeat until you’ve drank your own body weight (okay, that last bit is usually how I do it but I don’t recommend it if you value your health!)

Juliette – Berry Wine Spritzer

Juliette isn’t much of a drinker and she’d go for something that looked pretty over a strong cocktail so this wine spritzer would be perfect for her.  It’s cute and pink and pretty light weight so you can drink them all night without ending up under the table.  And Juliette likes being in control, as she finds out in the course of the book.

To make a Berry Wine Spritzer:

Fresh raspberries

Fresh blueberries

Sprinkle caster sugar

White wine (such as chardonnay), chilled

Soda water, chilled, to serve

Smash up the berries with a fork and mix the sugar through until dissolved.  You can do this part in advance and refrigerate until ready to use.

Add 2 tbsp of berry mix to a wine glass, add about 1/3 glass of wine then top with soda water.

I hope you can join The Bad Girls’ Club in their adventures and share in some cocktail fun as well.
